Today (Sunday) I found myself waking up earlier and with a bit of a spring on my step. I prepared our breakfast and while doing so, I began mentally creating a to-do list: dust and vacuum our bedroom, put away the dryer’s filter (which I cleaned yesterday), throw away the garbage, make our lunch boxes for the week, fold the clean clothes, and prepare my purse and important paperwork.

Tomorrow is a new day, and it has finally arrived. After nine months since I moved away from my home town I have finally secured a new job, a role that I am excited to have. Looking back, it was a tough experience. Despite getting out of the house once in a while to get a breath of fresh air, nothing compares to being confined in a small space, doing the best that I can so that I can move forward with my life and yet my efforts were, at that time, proved futile. I was really never the one to tell my experience to friends and family back home as I do not want to worry anyone, but I think my spouse already worried a lot as I spent numerous nights crying, doubting my abilities and my self-worth. Being an adult is convoluted and at times, distressing.

And yet despite those setbacks and the feeling of helplessness, I tried and worked hard. I am so glad that I did not give up and here I am, finding myself hurrying to complete my tasks for today. I am excited as I am nervous for tomorrow. I will be working in a new environment, meeting new people, doing new tasks, picking up big projects. My spouse and I have made our budget spreadsheet, planning what necessities to get, and have started looking for a new place to call our own. I don’t even have to worry about how to go to my friend’s wedding in the fall, and we can now plan for my family’s visit in June as well as our long postponed honeymoon.

Here are some photos that I have taken from the week of my successful interview to this week when I was running errands to prepare for our busy lives ahead. I took the subway from the North area of the city and looked at the window; realizing later on that my view of the city is now different as I move on to my life’s next page.
