Gastronomy 101: Winterlicious 2016

The husband and I were supposed to try two restaurants this year but we ended up with going to another one. The winter has been relatively mild although it was actually freezing during the Winterlicious week. I also thought the timing was good because of the NBA All-stars weekend, family day, and valentines day falling on the same final weekend.

First we visited Hapa Izakaya at 602 College St. My friend C and I wanted to check it out last summer but we weren’t able to due to my weird summer schedule. We finally went there to try their $25 prixe fix dinner plus a couple of tapas off their regular menu.

L-R: Japanese Arancini – Deep-fried halibut risotto balls with BC trout carpaccio, capers, dill aioli (reg menu), Pork Belly Wraps (reg menu), Agedashi Tofu (prixe fix menu)

L-R: Saba Miso, Chicken Teriyaki

L-R: Matcha Crème Brûlée, Green Tea Ice Cream

We then ended up ordering the winterlicious menu at Momofuku Noodle Bar (190 University Avenue) when our friends went out for our usual Friday night meet-up. The boys initially just wanted ramen but seeing the prixe fix it was a better deal so we ended up with that.

L-R: Shrimp Tsukemen, Smoked Chicken Ramen

L-R: Pork Belly Bun, Soft Serve Ice Cream

Lastly my husband and I had a pre-valentines date night at Crème Brasserie (162 Cumberland Street). It was also my first to visit the Yorkville area and really like the quaint, European feel of the streets and the boutiques that lined up the streets.

My husband ordered Stracciatella, Steak Frites ‘Fast Fry’, and Chocolate Crepes but no photos, he said. :p

L-R: Roast Cornish Hen, Crème Brule. I had Roquefort and Pear Salad as well but no photos. 😛
